| 1-1/2 | lb. | ground beef | |

| 3 | teaspoons | minced garlic | |

| 1/2 | teaspoon | black pepper | |

| 8 | slices sourdough bread | ||
|  | |||
| olive oil | |||
|  | |||
| 4 | Romaine lettuce leaves | ||
|  | |||
| 1/4 | cup | coarsely shredded Parmesan cheese | |

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, garlic, salt and pepper.  Shape meat into four 3/4 inch patties, shaping to fit the bread.  Place patties on grill directly over heat source.  Grill for 14-18 minutes for desired doneness, turning once. 
Brush both sides of bread with oil.  Grill for 1-2 minutes or until lightly toasted.  Place a lettuce leaf and a burger on bread slices; sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and top with remaining bread slices.
